The following is a news release from the Ottawa Police Service.

The Ottawa Police Service would like to extend our sincere thanks to Lionhearts for their generous contribution to this year’s Purse Project. Their donation will help ensure that women in our community who are experiencing violence or hardship receive essential items and a reminder that they are not alone.

Lionhearts has been helping strengthen our community since expanding their operations to Ottawa in 2017. What began as food recovery from bakeries, grocery stores, and event venues has grown into a large-scale operation that now rescues and redistributes millions of dollars’ worth of food and goods each year—at no cost to frontline agencies.

In 2023, Lionhearts opened a dedicated Ottawa warehouse, enabling the launch of their household goods recovery program with Amazon. Their very first pickup included 27,000 tubes of Pringles, and since then, thousands of household items—from clothing to personal care products—have been redirected to local organizations supporting people in need.

Today, Ottawa’s operations play a major role in Lionhearts’ mission to eradicate hunger and homelessness. Their generosity and partnership help us support some of the most vulnerable members of our community.

Thank you, Lionhearts, for your continued commitment to compassion, dignity, and community care.
