Preparation - May 2025 newsletter

I once read a story about a kid at camp who saw another child in medical distress. He ran to tell a camp counsellor.

Once he explained the situation to the camp counsellor, the counsellor slowly and calmly walked over to the child. In the end, the child’s life was saved and all worked out. But why did the counsellor walk in a time of crisis?

The counsellor later explained that, in order to administer CPR, he needed to have his breathing and pulse under control. If he was out of breath, he wouldn’t be able to save a life when he needed to.

Alexander Graham Bell once said, “Before anything else, preparation is the key to success”. Knowing what to do and following your game plan in both times of opportunity or more challenging moments is essential.

At Lionhearts, we’re famous for saying “yes”. We do this because we know the need is great, and because we can help. Behind that “yes” are ready, willing, and able partners, staff, and volunteers who help us do what we do every day of the year.

We’re always looking for more food we can recover, more hands to help keep it moving, and more people willing to financially partner to help keep our warehouses open, our vehicles on the road, and our staff cared for.

If you’re not already supporting us, would you consider joining our spring Unlocking Hope campaign? We’re fundraising for a few assets that will strengthen our programming and ready us for the fall. Please get in touch!

Expanded Shelter Services

Lionhearts is pleased to announce we are expanding the daytime drop-in services during the weekdays at the Adelaide Shelter. This is an expansion of the existing weekend programming as the Salvation Army is no longer providing daytime drop-in services.

The program is funded by the Homelessness Prevention Program, a provincially funded initiative that supports municipalities in providing support services to people at risk of or experiencing homelessness.

Grinning Ear to Ear

We're all smiles here - thank you to our friends at Queen's Dental Aid Network for your generous support!

Student members of QDAN recently made a bulk purchase of over 6,000 toothbrushes, toothpastes, and floss units, and worked with us to help distribute some of them via our Student Food Box to 250 local families.

Mom's The Word

We had a few surprises heading out recently in time for Mother's Day!

Thanks to our volunteers and our generous supplier partners, these bags of personal care and hygiene supplies will be distributed on Sunday via some frontline agencies serving women in our community.

Well Counselled

It was a privilege to welcome Councillors Gower, Hubley, and Curry to the warehouse recently!

The Councillors and their staff learned about what we do and helped sort some goods for redistribution.

London

They Came. They Sorted. They Conquered!

Huge shoutout to everyone at Gateway Church and London Rotary Clubs who rolled up their sleeves at a recent Amazon Sorting Event — you turned piles of food and supplies into hope and help for our community!

It was teamwork, laughter, and a whole lot of love in action. Way to go, team!
